Inspiring a Community of Achievement

21st Century

21st Century Community Learning Centers

Marion City Schools and its partners, Marion Public Library, YMCA of Marion County, Marion-Crawford Prevention Programs, and OSU-Marion Extension, have been awarded four Nita M. Lowey 21st Century Community Learning Centers grants to provide afterschool programming to Marion City Schools students across two elementary schools (Benjamin Harrison Elementary, Hayes Elementary) as well as Grant Middle School and Harding High School.  The purpose of the 21st Century program is to:

  1. Provide opportunities for academic enrichment to assist students in meeting the state academic standards;
  2. Offer students access to a broad array of additional services, such as those that focus on youth development, social-emotional learning, civic engagement, and nutritional and physical health; and
  3. Offer adult family members of program participants opportunities for educational development and engagement in their children’s education.

Students are invited to participate in 21st Century programming and include those who are economically disadvantaged, receiving special education services, English learners, academically at-risk and/or who could benefit from the supports provided during the additional learning time.
